A few months ago, we asked ourselves “What are we willing to do if we are buying our home?”  And to take it a step further, if we are a potential buyer for our home, how editing and modifying spaces is a fantastic way to let go.

In simple terms…

  • 1-2-3 Edit, modify and assemble is the key
  • 4-5-6 Letting go is your secret bag of tricks.

Last month we agreed ‘A Clean Home’ says, “Welina Mai”.  And nothing brings a home to life, then a happy home who feels wonderful after a good bath and moisturizing in all the right places.  It is a wonderful way for you to give your home all the Aloha it deserves.

  • 7-8-9 Clean, clean and clean to the 9’s
  • 1-2-3 Offensive textiles sting like a bee.

This month furniture arrangement and lighting are a few simple details transforming a house to a home and a home beaming a beautiful smile.

Suggestion #5:  Furniture Arrangement

As in room editing, well placed furnishings can open up a space to a big, beautiful smile.  Many times, we want to line furniture along all four walls.  Instead, consider placing a piece or two on an angle.  In the living areas, include an area for cozy conversation.  If space allows, an out of the way corner for reading is marvelous.

    • Tip of Aloha:  If a room has a focal point, such as a fireplace or bay window, arrange furnishings to enhance this feature.

Suggestion #6:  Lighting

Show your rooms in the best possible light.  If you’re lucky enough to enjoy good ‘ole fashion sun light, you are light years ahead of most!  Natural light is by far the best of all worlds.

If heavy drapes or curtains block the view, consider switching them out for something lighter.  Select a material where the sun light shines through.  Or you can always leave them open.  The same goes for any kind of blind.  Light makes a room happy.

On that note, clean windows and screens, inside and out is like the perfect pair of shoes, a beautiful strand of pearls, an incredible tie, or a handsome cuff link.  This turns a space (or an outfit) from ordinary to extraordinary.  The difference is amazing…really!  If you have a room with dark walls or no windows, or overhead lighting seems dark, lamps are a good option.

    • Tip of Aloha:  Arrange lamps in threes and if possible, in a triangle.  The triangle layout will allow light to extend throughout the room.  Don’t forget about candles.  They add intimacy when less is more.  Avoid your urge to add more and more and more.

Let’s recap…

  • 1-2-3 Edit, modify and assemble is the key
  • 4-5-6 Letting go is your secret bag of tricks.
  • 7-8-9 Clean, clean and clean to the 9’s
  • 1-2-3 Offensive textiles sting like a bee.
  • 4-5-6 Furniture on an angle is the better fix.
  • 7-8-9 Natural light is the way to go.  Then again lamps and candles serve up nicely like a luscious bottle of fine wine.
